On the way Live bank feeds and GST filing with Inland Revenue

Everything your AI can do in your books.

Qunei is the double-entry ledger built for the AI assistant you already use. Ask in plain words, approve what it drafts, and keep books that are yours. Here is everything it does today, and what is on the way.

A minute in Qunei

Three years of a sample landscaping company’s books, filmed on Qunei’s own pages, in about a minute.
Read what it says

0:00 This is Fern and Field, a sample landscaping company in Auckland, with three years of sample books in Qunei.

0:07 The dashboard: cash in both accounts, the year’s income and expenses, the budget against the actuals, who owes us and how late, staff claims, and the work waiting. Every figure comes straight from the books.

0:20 Reports open as finished documents. Here’s a full year’s profit and loss, beside the year before, saved exactly as it was issued.

0:30 Who owes us, and how late, at a glance.

0:35 Staff claim expenses from a phone, and see only their own claims.

0:42 With a draft-only assistant, nothing reaches the books until a person approves it. Here’s what’s waiting: bank lines and staff expense claims. I check them, and approve.

0:55 Your own AI does the bookkeeping. You stay in charge. Qunei. Start at qunei.ai.

Connect Qunei to Claude

Connecting Qunei to Claude, start to finish, in under two minutes. Shown with a sample workspace; the Claude screens are an illustration.
Read what it says

0:00 Qunei keeps your books through Claude. Here’s how to connect the two. With the plugin, it takes about two minutes, once.

0:07 On Claude Pro or Max, use the Qunei plugin. It brings Qunei’s skills and its connection in one install. Add it in Claude on the web or in the desktop app, and it then works in Cowork and in the Claude phone app too.

0:21 In Claude, open Customize, then Plugins. Click Add, then Add marketplace, and enter the address on screen. Then select Qunei, and click Add.

0:30 Open Qunei’s Connectors tab. If Qunei shows Not added, add it. Then click Connect. Claude sends you to Qunei, and you sign in as usual.

0:40 Qunei asks what this connection may do. Full access reads the books and changes them, as you can. Draft-only reads them and prepares entries for you to approve. Read-only changes nothing. The connection reaches only the workspace you choose. To set up your books, leave full access, and authorize.

0:59 Back in Claude, open a new chat and say hi to Qunei. On a new workspace, the plugin then starts a guided first conversation: your first ledger, your first bank statement, and your first report.

1:12 On Claude’s free plan, add Qunei as a custom connector instead. In Customize, then Connectors, add a custom connector named Qunei, with this address, and connect the same way. Plugins need a paid plan, so on the free plan you add Qunei’s skills yourself.

1:29 Every assistant you connect shows on your workspace page, with its access and when it connected, and you can disconnect it there at any time.

1:37 Every step is on qunei.ai, under Connect.

Live today

All of this works now, through Claude, Claude Code or Cowork. Your AI drafts, and nothing posts until you say so.

Your AI codes your bank statements

Attach a bank statement, PDF or CSV, and your AI codes every line, GST split out, asks about the ones it is not sure of, and stages them for you to approve. Next time, it remembers the suppliers you confirmed.

Email your receipts and bills to your ledger

Give each ledger its own email address. Forward receipts, supplier bills and statements to it, or upload them, and they wait in its inbox for your AI to turn into drafts, each kept beside the entry it supports.

Nothing posts until you say so

Your AI drafts, and you approve, in the chat or on the ledger’s drafts page. Nothing is edited in place: a correction is a new entry linked to the one it fixes, and every new entry records who made it and through which assistant.

Invoices in your brand

Raise invoices in conversation. Qunei renders every one from your own template, in your brand, and emails it to your customer as a PDF when you say so. Record payments in full or in part, raise credit notes, and see who owes you what.

New Zealand GST returns

Qunei works out each return from your books on the payments or invoice basis, all eleven boxes, and keeps it as filed. A late claim carries into the next return. Today you file it in myIR, and filing from Qunei is on the way.

Reports and a live dashboard

Profit and loss, balance sheet, trial balance and aged receivables, with comparatives, in your own brand. Save a report exactly as issued, and every ledger has a live dashboard that refreshes itself, with or without an AI.

Budgets for any project or fund

Set budgets in conversation and see budget against actual, line by line, for the whole ledger or one project or fund. Tag entries with as many tags as you need, and see profit and loss for any of them.

Expense claims, no app to install

Staff claim expenses from their phone with a photo of the receipt, or through their own AI, and see only their own claims. You approve or decline each one.

Performance reports for New Zealand charities

For Tier 3 and Tier 4 charities: a draft performance report from your books, with your statement of service performance, policies and notes, for your officers and accountant to review.

Your AI, your choice

Qunei works with Claude, Claude Code and Cowork today, with whichever model suits the job. Connect as many assistants as you like, and let any of them only read, or only draft entries for you to approve. See each one connected to your workspace, and disconnect any of them.

Books you can take with you

Your books are plain text you can read without Qunei. Download a complete copy of any ledger at any time, every document and attachment included, even after you stop paying.

Books in your own currency

Keep books in New Zealand or Australian dollars, pounds or US dollars, with your own financial year and a starting chart of accounts and tax codes for New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom or the United States.

On the way

The biggest things we are building next, in the order we expect to ship them. The roadmap has the full list.

Bank feeds

Read-only bank feeds, country by country: New Zealand first, then Australia, then the United Kingdom and the United States.

  1. Live bank feeds for New Zealand

    Coming soon

Connect your bank once and new transactions will arrive in your ledger each day, ready for your AI to code. You will be able to disconnect at any time.

  2. Bank feeds for Australia

    Up next

The same read-only feeds, through an open banking provider. Australian books work today, in Australian dollars, with a starting chart of accounts and GST codes.

  3. Bank feeds for the United Kingdom and the United States

    Up next

After Australia, through an open banking provider in each country. Books in pounds or US dollars, with a starting chart of accounts and tax codes, work today.

We will publish feed pricing before feeds ship.

File your GST return with Inland Revenue

Up next

Qunei already works out your GST return, box by box. Next, you will be able to file it with Inland Revenue from Qunei, with no boxes to retype.

Today

Qunei works out each return from your books and keeps it as filed. You type the boxes into myIR yourself.

Next

Your AI will prepare the return. You will check it, then sign in to myIR to give Qunei permission to file it.

More on the way

ChatGPT and Codex

Coming soon

Qunei will connect to ChatGPT and OpenAI’s Codex too, each with its own step-by-step guide like the one for connecting Claude.

Move from Xero

Up next

Your AI will bring your chart of accounts, contacts and opening balances across from Xero in conversation, and your history will be plain text from the first day.

Bank rules and matching

Up next

Your AI will learn how you code the transactions that repeat, and propose matches between bank lines, invoices and bills for you to confirm.

OpenClaw and Hermes Agent

Up next

Assistants you run yourself and reach from the chat apps you already use. They will connect with limited access, so an assistant that is always on can be allowed to draft entries but not to approve them.

Access to only part of your books

Up next

You will be able to connect an assistant that sees only part of your books, such as the marketing accounts or one of your ledgers, and nothing else.

Tax returns beyond New Zealand

Later

Australian GST and BAS first, then UK VAT, each worked out from the same books the way New Zealand GST returns are today.

Everything else we are building, and in what order, is on the roadmap.

Start today. Be first when the feeds land.

Every new workspace starts with 30 free days. You pay one flat price for each ledger, and your accountant and bookkeeper join at no extra charge.
